Vista to Win 7--Not an Upgrade
Your thoughts please.
I have an Acer laptop with Vista Home Premium. I like Win 7 so much, I decided to get this software from Newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCateg...rating-Systems. It is not an upgrade so my question is, can I D-Ban the whole drive including the 9.77GB partition for Vista recovery? I realize once I do that I can't go back to the factory setup. Would you leave the 9.77GB partition just in case of problems? TIA Carl |

I did that on my Acer. First create the back-up disks that they prompt you to do when it's new just in case you ever want to go back. Then let Win 7 partition it to your liking. I used the back-up disks when I sold it. They restored it to the original factory state.

trulad,
That sounds just like what I wanted to hear. You deleted the recovery partition and was able to go back? I made the recovery disks when I bought the unit new and have had an occasion to use them. Thanks trulad Carl |

Does not Acer supply a factory recovery disk for their laptops?

AlwaysUp,
I didn't get one with mine. As soon as I turned it on, it kept pressuring me to make my backup disks. I did that and no more pressure. There were three disks. Two for recovery and one for drivers and apps that came with the laptop. Carl |

As Kubie said, they prompt you to make recovery disks. They will send you a set for about $20.00

I finally broke down last November and bought a low end Dell laptop with Vista Home Premium on it and was really unhappy with my first Vista OS. So I went out on a limb and invested in Windows 7 Ultimate and I find that I really like the Win7. Maybe more than my trusty XP Pro. Anyway that is one thing that I made sure of is that the Dell came with a recovery disk. I would however have to then use the upgrade Win7 after recovery. I sort of now wish I went with a higher end HP due to the system sound being much higher quality. Oh well.....much later...
