Code 43

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Recommended resolution

One of the drivers controlling the device notified the operating system that the device failed in some manner.

My analysis: Bad drive, bad cable, or bad USB port.

hey guys...
well I know for a fact is not a bad cable, bad drive, or USB port. how do i know this? I am able to plug my Printer to all of the USB ports, and also the lap top is able to read a 1 Gid flash drive. The HDD and cable also are in good working conditions since i can access it on a XP system and a Mac.
I have try to update the drivers, but Windows 7 says that the ports have the right drivers. I dont suppose i have to install any drivers for the HDD do I? i mean i never had to on XP or even Snow Lepard, it just saw it and you were good to go!

If your external hdd doesn't have it's own power source and only has the usb connection, I suppose it's possible that the laptop can't provide the necessary power thru the usb. Have you tried connecting the external with the laptop power adapter plugged in as well as running just off the battery?

If that doesn't work you could try uninstall the USB drivers, boot into safe mode, then reinstalling the new drivers.

Try it with the external power source. Your external hard drive is right at the power limit for USB; that's why they provide you with an external power source option. On some systems, the drive will be able to pull sufficient power and on some it won't. That's what I've found with similar devices. I doubt reinstalling the USB drivers will help.

Most powerless external usb hard drives come with a special usb cable with two USB plugs on one end and one on the other. This allows you to plug into two usb ports on the computer in order to draw more power from the usb buss. Do you have a similar setup?

OK! so this issue has nothing to do with the drivers....
after doing some intense experimentation and research...i have confirm what many of you guys have been saying....loss of power.

I order to solve the problem with this particular Simpletech portable HDD, the Y USB cable that comes with the HDD will not be enough even if you plug both ports.

I have the feeling that if you have the power cord and plug it...it will work just fine...unlucky me...i lost it a while ago.

So this is what i did...i pull out and old USB hub plug all of it together and voila it work. i had to use another USB cable thought the original didnt work.

Hope this work for someone else....
