No solution found yet. In Vista .MOV file thumbnails dont work!
Hi, I have asked about this before but no solution has been found yet to this problem. I also checked online and some forums suggest changing the registry, but before I try something I dont know about I want to ask if anyone knows this problem or had experience with it.
Here is what happens. 1. Running window vista 64bit with all updates done 2. have quicktime plugins and everything related to quicktime installed 3. using Canon digital camera that outputs movies in .MOV 4. Opening file folder there are the .MOV files but they are shown as an icon for whatever program I may choose to run them with. If its VLC, tis the cone, if its Windows Media Player its a "reel" , if Quicktime its their symbol. 5. Tried resizing preview options. No wanted result 6. Tried various folder options tricks but it has no effect. 7. When opening the folders on the Canon camera the movies in there have a a correct preview thumbnail. Inside windows no. 8. Laptop that has Windows 7 doesnt have this issue. Help please. Thanks

you can't direct play mov file right off the camara, you have to copy the mov file to the hard drive then you can play it with media player. or take out the memory card and put in those memory card reader to play the mov file.

Try this. Uninstall Quicktime and everything related to it. Then download and install Quicktime Alternative. This is a no-nonsense codec and while not as pretty, is not near as annoying as Quicktime. When you are installing it make sure you select "custom" rather than default, typical, minimal etc and if I recall correctly, the setup will ask you whether you want to make thumbnail previews possible for .mov files.
