BootMGR is missing
4 days into configuring new dell laptop with 7pro, I get this BootMGR is missing message upon a reboot after a failed router configuring. I had just created a backup image of my newly installed 7pro with my basic apps installed, updated etc. on an external HD a few days earlier. I booted from an emergeny CD and restored using that image I had created 2 days prior. This did nothing to solve the problem. I had to do a repair operation from my 7pro install disk. This brought me back to the orginal state of my HD, so all the app data was erased (luckily I still had a complete backup of my app data from a few weeks back). So my question: why would I suddenly lose this BootMGR and why would a reinstall from a good, clean disk image not solve that problem? What is purpose of a disk image if it does not solve the kinds of problems I used to experince with a clean install?

You might be able o use that backup image if you zero fill the drive first.
You should use hard drive diagnostics to check the drive.

zero filling the drive is beyond me--I have no idea. I'm almost done with reinstalling all my software. I did make a disk image just after the system was installed and then will do so again after my main software is done. Thanks for the advice, though

ok.
For future reference, a zero fill is done with a program like dban, and all it does is wipe the drive so it's like brand new out the box. |
