Why do you need these partitions?

nothing , am just used to make them in xp for 10 years now . while xp keeps a some 8 mb as unloactaled
system resrved files but it didnt use to make a prtions for it .

now it made a reserve partition for them . so i think ill just do with 3 partitions

btw i dont see that extra 0 system partition in windows partition screen . is that the way it is ?

well the final setting for me was

C: 100 gb system partition

D: 100 gb for keeping my data . and system s/w . i dont usually format that so i can keep
my data on it . so i dont download stuff to it or expose it to any virus dangers .

E: 500 gb for downloads and installations of games applications ex.. i can easily format that and C: in case
of infection .

my question is : is there any negative side of making one big partition ? that can effect
the performance or paging files or what ever on the hdd ? or is it ok?

Hi
Please understand that Win 7 needs a 100 mb partition for it's boot. Actually it rather takes 200 but it works with a 100 as well. This is where the complete boot resides and from there Windows is loaded. Using Bootmangers OS loader.
Actually you don't need to change anything - if this Harddrive hasn't any OS on it the you just tell Win7 to place it's installation in the first or whatever you like partition and now the important thing comes. let it DELETE , CREATE and Format the Partition which you choose. All the rest will stay as it is.

You can as well remove all partitions and then have windows create the partition for you and you can manually set the Size of each partition you like to create. The most easy thing then would be that you just create a 100gb partition . leave the rest alone. Windows will take care of the 200mb Partition by itself. After installation has finished you then can create all the other partitions on top of Windows. ( rightclick my Computer select Manage). There you actually can also adjust the sizes of any Partition no need to get Partition Magic anymore.

Hope this helps.

You cannot have more than 4 partitions on the drive - but you can have an extended partition with multiple logical drives in it!
