Canon Printer Driver Problem

I have just installed Win 7 Professional on one of five PC’s that are on my Home LAN. All the other PC’s are running Win XP. One of the XP machines has two shared printers installed for all the others to use. One printer is a older HP Deskjet 970 Cse and the other a Canon PIXMA iP6600D, Win 7 found and installed the older HP 970 without any problem and it works great. The Canon iP 6600D is another matter. When you use the “Add a Printer” function on the Win 7 machine, it looks on windows update and eventually says that one is not found. I located the Win 7 x64 driver on the Canon website, installed it on the Win 7 machine, but the “Add a Printer” function cannot find it. I can’t find it on the Win 7 machine either. If I could I could simply browse to it and the install would be OK, I think. Can’t find any documentation helps. Does anyone have any ideas about the location of the driver? Or any other ideas for that matter.

Thanks

Not exactly the same thing but I just had an installation problem, posted on a recent thread, and ran into much the same problem with a Canon iP3000, the difference being that the Canon website said that old printer isn't supported by Windows 7. After all the updates through the installation the printer showed up in the "Devices and Printers" but still wouldn't work. I went to the Windows 7 site at MS, tried updating again and the MS driver for that printer downloaded, along with 27 other updates that apparently didn't get in there while updating during the install just a few minutes before. Downloaded all of them and voila, it got a driver and it worked. You might try that and let the update install it.

Hi
While installing the Printer, you will be faced to select the MANUFACTURER from the Listbox.
Choose Canon and then hit the buttom Windows UPDATE this will force Win7 to get the newest drivers online. After that it should install just perfectly

Otherwise just install them Manually.
If your printer is USB then disconnect the printer, Retart the Computer, Boot it to desktop, insert the CD and start SETUP.
When asked to choose connection then select USB or NIC if you use to Networking.
When asked to connect the printer then connect it.
Make sure that you do this all in Admin elevated modus, even a regular User can install a printer, still it's a unwritten law that anything can go wrong in regular USER MODE.

BTW are you sure that you run Win 7 64bit?

Hope this helps to clear the clouds..

Chris
