Help!
I have a 2+ year old Sony VAIO CR42-Z/R with an ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 graphics card. It was bought well before Win 7 so it had Vista (SP2), but NOT with a free Win 7 upgrade. Purchased a UK Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade. Ran the compatibility utilities etc - looked OK apart from some low-key warnings including one re: Radeon card. Researched this and an updated driver for ATI CCC appears to be available (10-6_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_enu) I ran the Upgrade which was apparently successful (after 3 - 4 hours :-) ) BUT now the graphics will only drive up to 1024 * 768 and the ATI software is missing. Tried the 10-6_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_enu install which appeared to succeed BUT didn't add the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) or allow better graphics (I use a 22" monitor ) I read with a sinking feeling the posts which suggest that ATI disown the 2300 and Sony should be the support route.... Is my VAIO _really_ now limited to 1024*768???? |

Upgrading VAIO CR-42 to Win 7 - Radeon graphics driver problem
Got a fix from commercial operation JustAnswer.com - helpful and easy to use.
Issue was partly my temporary idiocy - despite having LCD and an external, the screen res was locked to the LCD. But partly a failing in the X2300 chipset drivers - neither Sony nor ATI have (yet?) published updated driver for CCC. |
