making the switch from xp to 7
Hey,
So I got me here a copy of Windows 7 OEM system builders pack. There's some nonsense on the packaging about OEM preinstallation kit. If I have a clean hard drive, can I just load this on here? The wording on the packaging reads like I bought the wrong version. I also have 2 additional drives that are formatted ntfs in XP; are these going to be 100% compatible when I plug them into after I get my system running? I know windows 7 is considerably different, so I don't know how incompatible it makes all my hardware and software yet but I'm sure to find out... |

You shouldn't have a problem. I install 7 on my old lap top ,no problems. The other hard drives are no problem. I have 2 that I plug in when needed.

So can I just install it without the OPK?

Yes. The OPK allows OEMs to customize the install with their logos and drivers and such. Your Win 7 OEM will install fine.

I would install Win 7 without the external drives plugged in.
