Truely An Acronis Alternative?

Does ANYBODY know of an alternative (free) to Acronis Backup & Recovery or True Image?

It has features that are pretty simple but I'm astonished to find out many free similar backup solutions lack these features, such as...
  • Scheduled backups
  • Perform commands after and/or before backups
  • Use of different backup schemes (full, incremental, etc..)
  • Backup to network shares (without needing to map a network drive)

I've used Acronis Backup & Recovery and I got to say that it's probably one of the best back up solutions I've ever used. The latest True Image is pretty much crap when I used it (it was extremely slow at launching the program)

Clonezilla

More of a disk imaging app than a backup app, but might be worth a look

The freebies are all going to be crippled. Most of them are based on Acronis anyway.

I've used Clonezilla a lot. It doesn't have a scheduler & can not be backed up from a Windows environment. You must boot the machine into Clonezilla to do backups.

The licenses for Acronis are for life right? Some of you guys may want to look into Oops!Backup. Supposed to be the Time Machine of Windows and I've heard is far better than Acronis. It's not free though.

What happen to Macrium Reflect Free Edition. I love this application and it saves me from the nightmare of reinstalling Vista.

It doesn't allow backing up of individual files or folders, but it takes a image of the whole drive or partition and does a REALLY fast job of saving it to a secondary drive or network.

It's really simple to use and the recovery process is amazing. It took me about 15 minutes to do a fresh recovery to a image that was created by the scheduler, in my case monthly.

Give it a try its free!

It's not free but I'm still using Norton Ghost, it has never let me down and it has save my tail many times, either by restoring my hard drives, or just some old files I have lost.
