Windows 7 - automatic lock after 5 minute idle
I've been googling for about 30 minutes and can't come up with much. I need a way to ensure that my workstation locks after 5 minutes of sitting idle (no mouse/keyboard input).
What I am looking for: I want windows 7 (ultimate) to lock automatically after 5 minutes without sleeping, hibernating, or bringing up a screensaver. What I have gotten so far: A task in task manager that executes rundll32.exe with arguments: "user32.dll, LockWorkStation"; the task DOES successfully lock it, but even with scheduling it to run after 5 minutes of idle, it does not work. I found out that the task scheduler only polls for idle status after about 15-30 minutes, so this is not sufficient. It needs to get locked within 5 minutes of idle. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Not as technical as your wanting, but this may work for you:
First go to 'control panel' then 'power options' click on 'High Performance' then go to 'change plan settings' set the options to 'never' and save your changes. Then under the screen saver options you should have the option for a blank screen saver. Set the scrensaver to wait 5 minutes. You will be using the screen saver funtion, but all that will come up is a blank screen. Check the box for 'On resume display logon screen'. Set a password for all users. This will not officially lock the pc, but will deter most people from using the pc untill the lock funtions you asigned take place.

OK...Makes more sense now.
Why are you wanting to reinvent the wheel? Screen saver with password should work like a charm. |

As noted, there is a "blank" option.
