System Restore does not work

System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system.
A Volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information. (0x80042302)
I am running windows 7 ultimate.
I cannot find "The Application event log".
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks

I did a google search, if no one has advice here, you could see what is said elsewhere:

Start, control panel, select administrator tools, select event viewer, and then select Applications and Services logs.

Thanks guys, I did the google thing, & tried everything I could find, nothing work.
I did find the event viewer, but nothing there proved helpful.
Checked other forms also, bottom line seems to be a repair install, or reinstall of OS.
Seems kind of drastic to me as it is not really causing me any problems right now, but, of course the time will come when I will wish I had it (system restore).
