Unhappy cant get my sound

Hi I have a Asus P4V800d-x mobo that i tried to do a win 7 ultimate clean install. Everything went ok except the sound. It says no codec sound device installed. Searched asus site since the board is old there is no win 7 driver listed. Does anyone know where i can get the driver? its an integrated sound card i believe from soundmax. Searched all over the net no real workable solution yet. Any help would appreciated thanks

I'd buy a cheap Windows 7-compatible soundcard. Cards based on the Via Envy24 chipset are compatible, here's the official driver:

Here's a cheap card with that chipset:

Newegg.com - PPA 1417v 4 Channels 16-bit PCI Interface Sound Card

Thanks GLC for the quick response. That was my other option now considering the price its no brainer. I was going to order a case from they so i might as well add the sound card. Thanks.

This mb uses Analog Devices AD1888 audio chipset, u can try Vista driver, or edit the .inf file in driver pack, add your sound card's hardware ID into [Analog Devices] strings, then update in devices manager.
Analog Devices AD1888SoundMAX 45.12.01.5410 Analog Devices ?

First of all, make sure about your sound card's driver status; see if the windows knows it or no; sometimes, the system identify your sound cart you still cant hear anything.

if it was same as i gussed, you would solve your problem simply by updating your DirectX driver.
