auto updates corrupted OS
Ive just put together a brand new system (a very basic system) everything was working fine, all devices and memory were correctly recognized in the bios. Loaded windows 7 flawlessly, everything was working just fine for more than a day. i was just tuning things up and setting up email etc. then during a restart windows decided to install 39 auto updates. Now windows will no longer boot up. it goes to boot manager. it looks like it now has a corrupted system file. ive tried re-installing win7 from OEM disc. i get to the point where it restarts the 1st time and then it wants to completely start over loading again. So it is kind of in a loop. of course i do not know which update corrupted the OS. When i get it fixed i will definitely turn off auto updates. but for now any ideas on how to fix my problem.
thanks Steve |

It's possible that there's a hardware problem that was unearthed by the autoupdates, rather than the update being itself the problem. Again, it's possible also that some update wrecked the machine, wouldn't be the first case I've seen.
How are you reinstalling? Are you doing a clean install of Windows, as in reformatting the HDD and then installing? Try choosing Advanced during the installation so that you can delete the partition and then create it anew; see if that works. If it doesn't, it's time to start running diagnostics on your hardware.

I take it you didn't make a Windows 7 recovery startup disc. I would try unplugging all devices and try the repair method again. |
