having trouble with a fresh windows 7 64 bit install
just built my computer (see sig) and have been trying to install drivers and windows 7 64 bit... at first it seemed ok
now i keep getting errors trying to update windows and its causing blue screens and other errors. it all started when i first tried to install the video drivers for my Radeon HD 5850, it tried to install the ati CCC and it failed, kept failing to open upon restart.. so I uninstalled it (and the video drivers in safe mode) after that I installed only the video driver, not the ATI CCC and it seemed to be ok, so i began updating windows (after installing usb, lan, audio, etc.. drivers) this is where the real problems seemed to begin. some of the updates would not install.. then i got a couple errors Code:

Did you initially install with a wired keyboard and mouse? You should be good, I Just do all your updates before installing the catalyst. When all is good create a restore point and name it so you can identify it. Then use the cd that came with your card to install catalyst. If all is good, then create a restore point and name it ati cd catalyst or something before you try an update the ati catalyst in the event you run into a problem.

i did the initial install with a wired ps2 keyboard, then plugged in the wireless one.
when it reinstalls windows, it will format the drive and start over completely right? Ill have to install the chipset drivers and lan drivers before updating windows? only install those two? then let it update completely? then start with the rest of the drivers? thanks for the advice, im sorry for so many questions.. i just want to get this right (plus im at work and cant do any of this till i get home tonight) |

Then create your recovery disk (1 dvd) and recovery image dvd's (3 to 4 - 4.7 gb dvd's). You can also backup your system image with software on an external drive as well but that can be addressed later. Last edited by jdeb; 09-15-2010 at 11:29 AM. |

When I press f8 to get to the boot menu and hit repair, it brings me to a menu which has startup repair, system restore, system image recovery, windows memory diagnostic, command prompt.
When I use the startup repair it says no problems detected. How do I just do a full wipe and fresh install? |

How do I go about booting from the disc? I presume I need to select the boot drive in the bios to have it boot from the disc drive instead of the hard drive?

Sigs are set up to appear only once per thread, in order to keep the board clean. Some people's sigs are longer than their posts.

Don't worry too much about it. If you're using Quick Reply, just make sure that the box "Show your signature" is checked.

Ok I set the boot device to the DVD drive, booted from the win7 disc and when trying to reinstall it gave me error 80070570 and said a file was missing. Now when windows boots, nothing opens (update, iexplorer, etc...) it's says entry point not found "the procedure entry point _vsNwprintf could not be located in the dynamic library ntdll.dll."
I'm lost. ![]() http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/5793/photorle.jpg Last edited by glc; 09-19-2010 at 05:09 PM. Reason: convert inline image to link |
