Can I install Windows 7 as select boot with Vista? One harddrive

Hello everybody. I currently have Windows Vista 64bit and one 1tb harddrive. I also purchased Windows 7 64bit because of student discount since my mom goes to community college.

I wonder if its possible to install it as a dual boot on 1 harddrive. I know the answer is probably no, but maybe, so I wanted to ask.

If I do buy a 2nd hard drive for Windows 7 pro 64bit that I bought, should I spend some money on one of those solid state drives or just a standard one? The fast one I might use for high end pc gaming.

Ideally I'd like to start the PC and have 2 choices to choose from.

Any hints are highly appreciated, thanks!

All you need to do is partition the existing hdd if it's not already.

With a seperate partition on the hdd, Win 7's boot manager will take over and you'll get what you want. The Win 7 install walks you right thru it.

I'd stay with magnetic drives for the time being.

As was mentioned above creat two partitions. This will act like two hard drives on one. Then install vista on one and win 7 on the other.

Can you resize your partition in Windows 7 without wiping out the data?

That's gonna be a tough find. I found Easeus:
Best FREE Partition Manager Freeware for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7. EASEUS free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.
It says it'll work with Vista and 7 but only the 32 bit versions.

You may have to reformat if you don't want to buy a new hdd.

Thought so, that you still need a third-party partitioner.
