Power Control Settings (Display)
Hello everyone.
I been having this slight issue for a while and I just thought Windows 7 had just messed up for whatever reason. Both of my monitors used to turn off after 20 minutes. It worked fine up until about a month ago. I reinstalled Windows 7 just the other day(I did not reformat for this minor issue) and the issue seems to persist. It doesn't seem to matter if I make a custom power plan or choose one of the two presets. In reality, it doesn't matter much to me if they turn off or not using the operating systems controls but if I forget to turn them off during the day, I would rather the back lights not be on that long. Any thoughts as to what I am missing. Computer Specs are in my signature. Thanks Chris

You can specify how long before your monitor turns off in power settings in the control panel.
If that doesn't work, I've sometimes seen the settings for Administrator supersede the settings specified by other users.

Right now, I have the time frame set in power settings. Windows just doesn't want to allow that action to be executed. This applies to both preset power options as well as custom plans.
As far as administrator changes go. I have myself setup as administrator and have the "guest" account turned off. So there is only one user. At this time I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. I have it all setup the exact same when it was operating properly. I |

In Windows 7 there are more detailed power settings that are buried a little bit.
Go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Power Options/Edit Plan Setting/Change Advanced Power Settings. Here you will see a huge selection of power saving choices, including the shutdown time for your monitor. Of course click Save Changes or Apply when you are done.

Had some time tonight to try out the different solutions posted. I have enabled the administrator and have performed just about everything else posted. I also went through all the different power settings to make sure it was setup properly. As of this moment, the monitors still will not turn off after a designated amount of time.
Does the nVidia graphics control panel have power settings within that could be overriding Windows 7? The obvious thing would be to look in the nVidia control panel and browse through the different tabs. I have already done that, but a fellow engineer at my office swears his control panel has power options (I personally have never seen such a setting in an nVidia control panel over the years). Thanks |

Update to the situation.
I went ahead just for the heck of it and connected to just one monitor as opposed to two. When I run a solo monitor, the sleep function will work properly. When I run both monitors, it will not function. Keep in mind that it was working with both monitors connected for about a year before this issue occurred. Any thoughts based on this finding? Thanks |

Hello Everyone,
I know its been a while since I have responded with any updates to this post. The problem has to do with my Razer Deathadder 3500 DPI mouse. I would talk directly with Razer, but they seem to be reluctant to email back about the issue. I went ahead and went into msconfig, and disabled all my startup programs to see if something in there was causing the issue. Upon disabling everything and restarting my power options worked correctly. I added back startup programs one by one until I found the issue. The issue happened to be the razerhid Application which is what allows my drivers/customizer to work. I tried then disabling everything and enabling just the razerhid Application and sure enough the displays did not work. This verified my findings. My question now, has anyone encountered such and issue, have a solution or anything that might be helpful. Thanks Chris |
