Trying to install windows xp
I have a windows xp cd, but it will not boot from the cd. When I put it in it will not let me install because I have windows 7 and can not go backwards. So I created another partition on my hard drive to install windows 7. So how can I go about installing windows xp on my new partition?
Thanks. |

To dual boot, it's easiest to start with a fresh blank drive and install XP first, then install Win 7. However, if your XP CD won't boot, that issue must be taken care of first.

Hi
You could also try starting the install from inside Windows 7. Start it from the Windows XP disk in Windows explorer, it will shut the computer down and restart it, and give you a menu with the options to tell it where to install, etc. Whether is will continue from there in you case or not, I don't know but normally it will just go ahead and do a normal install without the initial boot from the CD thing. It's worth a shot! As GLC said it's best to start with Windows XP installed and ad Windows 7. Mike |
