Smile Wich OS should I install

Hello,
I've been thinking about this for several days now and I still couldn't decide, wich OS is better for my old Pc - Win XP or the fancy 7.

So, I have this XP install on it that has gotten bloated like dead cow (about 6-7 years old). I'm having multiple problems with it (Occasionaly PC freezes while using Flash in Web browser, it starts up slowly and doesn't get faster after boot )

Soo, the specs:
CPU: Intel Celeron D 2,8GHz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce MX 440 8x AGP
Hdd: 3 drives 2 80's PATA and 1 120 GB SATA ( Planing to install on this one - it is the newest ans has got SATA)
RAM: 1,5 GB
PSU: 400 or 350 Watts, can't remember exactly.

I also have some minor stuff as well (Priter,Webcam)

I'm using this PC primay fow Web browsing, music, movie playing, document managing and World Of Warcraft PC game (on min settings Ofc)

Please give me advice, wich os I should go with. I'd go with 7 if I had better GPU and more CPU power.

I'm not going to upgrade this PC or get a new one. This is my "alt".

Well, that's how it's going to be once you reformat, reinstall XP and then install SP3 and all the updates.

This pretty much answers your question, though, leaving Windows 7 out of the loop. Honestly, for an old machine like that, the best you can do is just reformat the hard drive, reinstall XP and its updates and run it until it dies. It's not cost effective to upgrade it.

Thanks for advice!

One more question:
Should I install the SP3?? i haven't heard any good comments on it.
Now I'm running with most updates without SP3.
I also haven't managed to find any page that shows What and Why is changed in this Service Pack. So please tell me if it is worth to get it, hence more services and features = lower system performance, and what comes with SP3.

The patches are mostly security related, if not all of it. It is reccomended to get. Your pc should handle it well enough with 1.5gig of ram.

If your machines feels slow after installing SP3; Turn off indexing, get rid of any installed search features, run ccleaner, and defrag the hdd.

Search features such as Windows search and Nero Search use your pc's recources like an unattended Halloween candy bowl.

Not sure how I doulble posted. I meant to only edit.

You must install SP3 in order to get any security updates.
