pls help,cant play dvd

trying to play a dvd on my Vista laptop, keeps comming up Windows media player cannot play the dvd because the proper decoder is not available "

Wth is this about ???

The only versions of Vista that come with a DVD decoder are Home Premium and Ultimate. You have 2 options - purchase a decoder or install (free) VLC.

so you mean to tell me the laptop comes with a dvd player but it doesnt play dvd's ?
