Notepad: Access Is Denied

This question is for the "Mine" system in my sig (Win7)...

I had several Notepad docs on my desktop. I cut/pasted them to My Documents which is located in a different partition of same drive. Now when I try to open one of those docs I get a "Access Is Denied" message. If I move it back to my Desktop then I can open it just fine. What is the deal with that?

Have you left them in both locations? If so try to put them in one location or the other and see if you can open them there. Or you could just open it and re save in the new location.

Mike

Try a program called "Take Ownership"

Add Take Ownership Option Shortcut in Right Click Menu of Windows 7

It adds a command "Take Ownership" to your right click drop down that will usually resolve issues like this. I love it!

Mainly I'm trying to figure out why this is happening in the first place. I do have that "Take Ownership" in my right click menu as I came across that article awhile back.

I know what I need to do to eventually view these files but what I'm trying to learn is why and what do I need to do so that I'm able to create a document, move it if needed and then open it....in a normal way without having to move it back or take ownership of it. Never had this problem with previous versions of Windows.

Thanks

Also check your system for any malware/registry corruptions.
