External HDD (Win 7 Driver Problem)
I am having trouble getting an external HDD I put together working properly. I'm not sure if this belongs in Windows OS problems, software problems, or hardware problems.
The basic problem is that the driver does not install correctly. The drive I have is a 2 TB 3.5 inch Drive. It has a fan and is powered externally. I can get the driver to install correctly, however I have to uninstall the driver and then restart the computer with the hard drive powered up and plugged in. If I power down the HDD and power it back up, it will usually stop working. Another thing that seems odd, when I start the computer with the HDD powered on and plugged in, it will not finish posting until I turn the power on the HDD off. In order to get the mobo to finish posting, I have to turn power off HDD and turn it on before windows finishes loading. When I installed the HDD in the enclosure, I did not move any of the pins that would change its setting for master or slave HDD. The enclosure is: Rosewill RX-358-S BLK I'm not sure what the HDD is ... If needed, I'll open and find out. Let me know if you need any additional details. Thanks in advance. |

uninstalling driver and restarting computer is no longer working to fix the problem.
To clarify, I know the driver is at fault because when i plug the drive in and Windows 7 tries to install drivers it says "failed'. HDD is a hitachi. |

Do you have access to another pc to verify that the drive is good?
