Question HP all in one

Hi Gang

I have a friend that bought one of these HP all in one computers. I can get the Mod # if needed.

He is having a problem with of all things blue screens. He gets these blue screens randomly, it might go 2 days with out doing it then it will do it several times. It flashes the blue screen, then very quickly will reboot and act like normal, it does this too fast to make out what the writing is saying.

He bought this about a month ago, and it started doing this, so he took it back. thinking it was a computer problem. So they exchanged it for him and he brought another one home, and it was just fine for a while then started doing the very same thing.

I have not been there when it has done this, he is telling me all this. he says it reboots and comes back on and he don't lose anything. He has run it wired and wireless, same problem. He has very little on it being it is so new. I know he is with Vorizon.

Any help will most certainly be appreciated......Gunny

Is your pc randomly rebooting itself? You can go to

Control Panel->System icon->Advance tab->Startup & Recovery Settings button. UNcheck/disable the "auto reboot" option. Instead of rebooting you'll probably get a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) which can be searched on for a solution.

You can go to Advanced Search to search on for example: STOP 0x00000050

Hi Ezy

Hey thanks for getting back to me on this, as I said i will get more info on the computer.

Ya it does randomly reboot itself after the blue screen comes on. Now you are saying to do this to keep your blue screen there so you can read what the errors are. Ok that is good so after you read and copy what it says do you just go ahead and reboot it.?

The info he is giving me I am sure is accurate enough. And as I said I will get more info as we go along with this. The thing that is really throwing him and me is that it will go so long in between the blue screens. I was told one time that most blue screens are caused by software. I don't know enough to say I agree or disagree with that statement.

He really likes this all in one, and would like to keep it, but it is frustrating to have this happen all the time. He said it even does it when he is off line. Boy I don't know.

I have done a lot of research on this complaint, and that HP computer and there is not much said about these computers, all the reviews say they are great and not one thing about any blue screens.

So I really appreciate your help here.....Gunny

I've never used the following but I hear its good:

BlueScreenView v1.26 - View BSOD (blue screen) crash information stored in dump files.
Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files.

Hi Ezy

He was able to capture a couple of things when the blue screen showed up.

Hope this helps.

The app I linked too above can help read the dump file..

The BLUE error message itself has a STOP error code that can be Googled.

Hi Ezy

Well problem solved, he decided to let the Geek Squad at Best Buy have a shot at it. They used their diagnostics and found the problem/problems. It was driver issues, there was a ton of drivers that needed updated. The guy told him that these computers sit in a warehouse for months, some times before they are sold. They did not have the blue screen while they had it but told him, they were like 99.99% sure this would solve the problem. He called me and asked me if this sounded feasible, and asked me if he should keep it and give it another chance. I told him sure it very feasible, and if it was mine I would keep it, and give it a shot. His 30 day return is up today.

So I told him take it home hook it all up again and turn it on and let it rip, and see what happens. That was about 4/5 hours ago and no blue screens yet. I told him to buy a good driver update program and run it every so often, and keep all his drivers up to date.

So time will tell, personally I think they found the problem with the drivers, but the only thing I wonder about is I know for a fact that I have drivers out of date many times and never experienced blue screens. But this is new tech stuff so maybe they are made this way to detect stuff like this now.

I appreciate your time and help......Gunny

Hi Ezy

Well here I am again, he had it on for probably 4 hours and up comes the blue screen again, boy what a disappointment to him and me. I thought for sure it was fixed. So back to the drawing boards. So was they pulling his leg that it was fixed or did they really think they had it fixed.?

He is ready to box it up, and take it back. He is really getting frustrated. Do you think he should or do you think it is still fixable.?

Thanx....Gunny

In theory the machine should be under warranty...The story about it sitting in a warehouse - while probably true is irrelevant. Drivers don't "spoil" and go bad like fruit does

But drivers, a poorly written application, defective ram.....any number of things could cause the error.

Goggling the STOP CODE error and or running the app I linked to could help.
