What's going on with search?

Hi

This is driving me buggy!
Windows 7 HP, 64.

Today I needed to find a .jpg file stored under a program folder with a lot of sub folders containing different texture files etc.

I couldn't remember the exact name of the file so I wanted to just see a list of all the .jpg files so I could look through them visually without having to sort through all the folders.

When I searched for the jpg extension it said it didn't find anything.

So I switched to Locate32 and ran the search from the root directory for the jpg extension.

It also said there were no files.

Finally I clicked on a folder full of .jpg files and it still tells me that it can't find any files.

What's going on, how do I get search to find things, this isn't the first time I have noticed this but it's getting to be a pain.

Mike

More information!

I went back and tried running the search from the root of the drive D:\.

To my surprise it found the files but it showed them in a location that does not exist on the drive.

Not having any other ideas I went to the parent folder and use the take ownership application on it.

What do you know Windows can now see the files in it when I search in it.

However Locate32 still can not.

There seems to be some kind of disconnect where there are two different locations listed as the file location someplace.

I may try to reinstall the software to get it to register it's location correctly.
Does anyone know a way to force Windows to look at where this folder really is.

I solved this problem by forcing Windows to re-index the file system.
You can tell it to rebuild the data base in the indexing options app.
