Missing printer win 7
For some weird reason I am unable to see my prnter in devices and printers.
The prnter is an hp laserjet and have installed an pcie parrale port as the mobo did not have an onboard one. I can print to it from any program fine as it appears in the printer dialog box on LPT3: However I am unable to set it as my default printer as its not lister under printers/ devices & Printers. Theres been a few times now that ive wasted photo paper prining text/webpages. Any idea> was ok under vista. (Clean win 7 64bit ult) |

Have you downloaded and installed the latest Widows 7 drivers for it from HP?
Does the printer have a USB option? I remember when getting your printer to work was one of the toughest things you had to do on your computer. The problems all went away with the advent of USB. There may be issues with 64 bit, how old is the printer? |

I did find that you aren't the only one having this problem and the other people are also running the printer from a parallel port.
The only relevant information I found indicated that this happened if you have the printer plugged in before installing the software. One person said that they uninstalled the printer unplugged it, reinstalled the software and then plugged in the printer and it appeared in Control Panel. I know this was a problem at one time especially with scanners, but not lately. The other solution was to go to the HP website and see if they have a later driver and software package then the one that Windows 7 installed automatically. While Widows does install a printer driver it doesn't automatically installs the software that goes with the printer. I did find that when I installed Windows 7 on my old computer it didn't always install the latest driver for everything. Other then that I don't have any ideas. It seems like if you can print from it, it should show in Control Panel. Mike |
