Low # restore points
Called in by friend to fix an infected laptop (Win 7 HomePrem). I went to the restore points and found that there were only 4 recent restore points showing, even with box checked to show more. The time span was only 5 days. Any idea why so few points showed up? My laptop has a list that goes back months.

The default setting is to use 12% of the drive space for restore points...The smaller the drive and or the larger the amount to be stored will determine the number of restore points.
That's the good news. The bad news is most of the time the restore points are infected too.

EzyStvy,
I thought of the allotted disk space after I posted my question. Luckily, my friend's earliest restore point took care of his computer problem, but I think I'll advise him to allot more disk space for restore points, just in case. |

Download MS Security Essentials and install. Run a full scan.
If it does not improve, then download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Install and perform a full scan. Post your results. |

Iamjosh
Thanks for the tips. Did a quick scan with MS security but will advise friend to do a complete scan, too. Thanks |
