Can you increase bandwidth for networks/internet connection in windows 7 64 bit ? If so , Is it safe. Will it make my computer faster while on the internet? Thanks

Your bandwidth is capped by your ISP. With some ISP's you can pay more money to get greater bandwidth.

There are things you can do to make sure other computer processes are not competing with the bandwidth that you are using....such as when you are in a multiplayer game.

Which OS you are using does not really have any effect on your bandwidth or home network speed.

You can get a sense of your ISP's speed by bringing up Command Prompt in Search and for example entering in "PING PCMECH" or "PING YAHOO" or pinging an ISP address.

Speakeasy.com has a nice meter for measuring bandwidth.

As I see it, bandwidth is analogous to the volume of water that is flowing through a pipe, (volume/time). Speed is how much time a packet of information goes from point A to point B, (time). Yes I know time and speed are different...but you get my point, since the units for "speed" are in milliseconds and not meters/millisecond.

One measurement is volume/time, the other just time. These are two very different things which sometimes mistakenly get interchanged by people.

Additionally, some ISPs also measure and cap the amount of data you transfer in a given period of time, say monthly; once you reach that limit they reduce your speeds.
