What should I do after running a suspicious file?
Hey guys.
I downloaded a crack of some program; I scanned it by Avast! and got a green light to open it, so I did it; it worked properly and cracked the application. After that, I used online scanner (Jotti Scanner) to scan the crack (.EXE) file and unfortunately, I got some negative results which were indicating that the file might be infected. (Terrible job by Avast!) Fortunately, There is not any sings or traces of Trojans and Backdoors (Such as disabling Registry, Slowing down the system, etc,) but I don't feel safe anyways. Right now, I'm indeed afraid of doing anything on my PC, because if that file is a malicious one, whatever I do here will be sent to hackers. So I want you guys to suggest me what should I do now? I appreciate any aids or ideas... Thanks. Last edited by glc; 12-06-2010 at 11:51 PM. Reason: Remove nonstandard font |

Thank you for being honest. However, cracking software is severely frowned upon here and we don't want to hear about it again. Please refer to forum rule 9. Fair enough?
We'll try to help you fix it. Delete the crack file and uninstall the program. Then scan the computer with Malwarebytes. Uninstall Avast and install Microsoft Security Essentials. Scan with that. Then install Sophos Anti-Rootkit and scan with that. Hopefully, one of them will find something. If not, your choice - trust that it's clean, or do a nuke and pave. |
