Win7 after Ubuntu install?

I'm considering purchasing and installing OEM Win7. I already have Ubuntu installed and I'll be interested to install it on a separate HDD.

I'll be all but a complete newbie with Windows as a haven't had a Windows install since the DOS days with a Radioshack Tandy 1000. Been using Mac 5 years and Linux 5 mos. Though, I have and do use Windows PCs on occasion and I've read quite a bit here and there. I figure others in my home need the experience and so do I. Plus, a couple good games are a must!

Soooo, I just would like some tips and suggestions to help get me started on 'the other side' of computing with the big M.
Installation tips, warnings/precautions of install, post installation tips, driver tips, etc..

TIA!!

Hi

All I can say is that I haven't had any problems installing Windows 7 as a second operating system on a computer with Windows XP.

I also run Ubuntu from a DVD, with no problems.

Since you are going to install it on a separate drive, (as I did with XP) I wouldn't think that you would run into any problems, the two operating systems really don't see each other as far a functionality goes.

I'm pretty sure that Windows 7 will think it's the only operating system.
It will give you a choice of which you want to use before it loads either.

The only thing I'm not sure of is how it will set up the dual boot.
If both systems are Windows this all happens automatically I'm not sure what happens if the first OS is Linux?

You might want to download and install EasyBCD before you start so that you have it handy.

EasyBCD - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Windows 7 is very good at installing and finding the correct drivers etc.
And it should configure your internet connection and everything during the installation.

I've installed it on 4 computers so far and I didn't have any trouble on any of them.
All were either upgraded from XP, or dual booted.

I use the term upgrade loosely, it doesn't really upgrade from anything but Vista, with XP it does a clean install either way.

But for what it's worth it has been easier and quicker to install (about 25 minutes) then any other Windows version I've ever done. I remember installing Window 3.1 and it took forever even though it was only about 17 megabytes, times have really changed. I wish I could have a 17 megabyte operating system now.

Mike
