Windows 7 - Task Manager is Slow to Open

I recently bought a new laptop, which has no excuse for being slow.

It's a Lenovo Y560, i7-740QM, 500GB HDD + 32GB SSD, 4GB of RAM...
anyways everything on this computer is blazing fast, except for one thing...

When I CTRL+ALT+DEL to start task manager it takes close to 10 seconds for it to come up. This was instant on any other computer I know. Does anyone have any insight into why this would take so long on such fast (by the specs) laptop?

Thanks for the help.

Dan

I don't know if this matters for the lag you are experiencing with your Task Manager but are there quite a number of processes running in the background? Have you gone to msconfig/Startup and unchecked processes which do not need to boot every time you start your computer? Have you used CCleaner to rid your computer of junkware that the manufacturer installed?

You use PC Decrapifier for that.

I ran CCleaner, and did turn off some processes at startup. Still says there are 106 running, and it still takes a 10 seconds for it to show up.

My old computer had about 94 processes running and still the task manager came up almost instantly.

Only 1.83/4GB of RAM is being used.

This really just stumps me. It's no big deal, I am just really curious why it takes so long.

That is WAY WAY too many processes. You need to examine your startups a LOT more closely.

OK, well I disabled a ton of stuff, and got it down to 80 processes. However, in the list that shows up there are only 27, by user "Dan".

Then I click on show processes from all users, and there are a ton of processes by user "SYSTEM". Can theses be disabled somehow? At this point task manager still takes a while to show up.

You need to systematically go through everything that's running at startup.

Did you uninstall all the junk the laptop came with? Which AV program are you running? Have you done a scan for malware and stuff?
