Whats the difference between OEM and Retail???

If I buy an OEM for system builders from Newegg can I install it on my dell? The retail version is $200 versus OEM for $100, whats the difference?

Nevermind, googled it and found the answer.
For those that are interested here is the answer:
OEM is a one time install with no support and is not upgradeable, you can reinstall on the same pc only, cannot be moved to another pc unless you call MS and they may or may not accept your reason.
Retail can be installed on as many PCs as you want but, only one at a time, also comes with support and is upgradeable.

You can only have either version on one machine at a time,so why pay extra for the fancy box? When you need to re-install I've never had a problem. As for support, this site is far better.

Thats what I said, except the OEM version does not move from machine to machine while the retail version does. The OEM version is machine specific, you can only reintall it on the same machine it originally was installed on. This site is great for support, MS support is suxors anyway I agree.

If your old machine is out of service, you can install it on a new build. I've done it several times. You have to activate by phone after explaining that the old machine is dead.

OEM's are generally less expensive cause you agree to NO support from Microsoft

One would think that might make it worth more.
