Windows 7 activation question (again)
Hi there,
I pre-ordered Windows 7 Home Premium and received it on it's launch date in 2009. It arrived in a nice plastic box with a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. I installed the 64 bit version on my PC at the time. Recently, I installed the 32 bit disc on my netbook just to see how well Windows 7 worked on it. Imagine my suprise to find Windows 7 has activated successfully on the netbook! How can I have 1 copy of Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit versions) and be able to successfully activate it on 2 different computers?

If you bought the retail software instead of the OEM, you are allowed to transfer it to a different computer. What might happen is the next time your desktop goes through the WGA validation, it might fail.

Would the netbook become the valid licence then? If I have to buy an OEM version of 7 when it comes to reinstallation, then so be it. |

It won't be a problem on your desktop until you have a reason for reactivation. Like a major componnet change.
i saw this with the version that came with my daughter's Dell. Just for the heck of it(and I wanted tp play with 7) I was able to install the OEM version on one of my hdd's. I wasn't planning on activating, I just wanted to play and then uninstall. Wouldn't you know it, 7 activated overnight with auto updates. i din't even think about. A few days later I uninstalled it and got my own copy later. Her Dell is still operating fine. But I'm afraid we may have an issue if she needs to reinstall. But I'm not too worried about it. I've called MS before.

It was not my intention to allow Windows 7 to activate on the netbook, merely to test the OS.
What I don't want is a situation where any reinstallation fails to work on both my desktop AND my netbook. Is this possible to happen? |

You need to put a new valid/differnt key code on the lappy if you want to run Win 7 on it.
If and when you have an issue on the desktop you'll simply have to talk to MS and explained what happened.
