Printer using different OSs followup (GLC)

On another thread GLC made this statement
Quote:
I've pretty much given up on getting printers to share nicely between different versions of Windows. I use printers with Ethernet ports or use a USB print server.
I assume from this that with a printer connected via an ethernet cable, it does not matter if computers printing to it have different OSs.
Then I wondered:
When adding this printer to vairous machines, would it be considered a "Shared" printer?

1. Correct, as long as drivers are available for each OS.

2. Nope. You install it as a local printer on each machine, using a print server port or standard TCP/IP port instead of a USB or LPT port. You do not share it. The computers do not have to be formally networked with print and file sharing, they just have to be connected to the same router.
