Question Hdd-to-ssd

Hello Guys!

I bought Acer Aspire 8943g series and it has a empty hard disk drive bay. I want perfomance into my system and I bought 64 OCZ solid State Drive just for the OS and Programs. My data will be saved onto the 500GB drive that came with the system. How can I transfer or clone my OS and programs on the actual 500GB into a 64GB SSD ?
Please any lead will be appreciated!
Thanks

Thierry.

Many cloing apps don't like going to a smaller size drive like this... And, just picking out the OS and Apps and NOT including anything else won't be fun.

How long has it been since you did a fresh install?

EzyStvy it is a brand new laptop. I had it about a week from now. Everything is top notch apart from the hdd with 5400 rpm. Can I create the recovery disk for the system and reinstall it on the SDD or create an image of the system and install it on the sdd instead ?
Thanks

You can use Acronis True Image Home 2011 to clone or image with. Earlier versions will appear to work, but the restoration process does not properly align the SSD.

MAKE SURE you create the recovery disks BEFORE you start messing with it, because I do not think the recovery partition will work afterwards.

hi thierry,
sorry to hear that. I would like to say whatever copy apps you used, please do error-checking and degragmentation works, then you start to copy it.
in fact, there are many freeware can do copy from larger one to smaller one. just google it, or find from shareware sites
now, your problem is mbr error, it means you need to rebuild/ fix your mbr.
what is your os? if possible, i recommend u to use partition master to have a try. the rebulid mbr feature may give u a hand.
run it under bootable cd
if this rebuild mbr feature isn't helpful, i have to say you need to be ready to recover your lost partition, use partition master partition recovery module.
good luck
