phew, long list but i wanted to be thorough (especially on the ram) So from here on out im mainly going to be talking about my first set up as this is the most important. For the ram, my mobo reads left to right: A1, A2, B1, B2. I have the ram installed in this order: 4gb, 2gb, 4gb, 2gb.

so what literally happens is while multitasking (like listening to itunes and playing starcraft ii, or just using adobe premiere) the computer will just lock up, and loop the last sound it made like a skipping cd until I do a hard restart. it would do that every once and a while after i installed windows 7. as first it would be infrequent, but once it freezes once and you restart, you may only get a minute or two before it locks up again. its stopped locking up all together and just going to the blue screen where it says its dumping my ram, and then unsuccessfully restart. I googled this problem and there are SO many people that have the same exactly problem and no idea how to fix it! its gotta be windows 7. my older set up was running xp forever and once i upgraded to 7, it started freezing right away. I tried running memtest86+. It ran for about 4 hours and didn't seem to have any errors, but there seemed to be a lot of options and parameters....not really sure what im supposed to do with this thing. My graphics card and bios drivers have been updated but no change in the problem. I was going to update the drivers on my mobo chipset too but i wasn't sure how to do that either. Help stop with madness!! I've built a pretty killer pc to edit video on, and now it just sitting in my room turned off 24/7. I go outside a lot more but i got crap to do!

Hi

Did you go from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Windows 7?

I'd make sure that your video and audio drivers were the latest 64 bit drivers for Windows 7 if you haven't already done that.

I've run into the audio looping and freeze on my on my old computer when I upgraded to Windows 7 from XP while working in Premiere myself and updating my sound-card drivers fixed it.

Video card drivers are up to date. Updated sound drivers and rectified any (!) issues under device manager. Ran starcraft
2 with itunes open fine. Ran for a couple days and then went to the blue screen and backed up my my ram before freezing. When restarted i got a scrambled looking bios screen. Did a hard restart and im pretty much back to where I started

You have a hardware issue. Bad video card, bad ram, bad motherboard, or bad power supply.

On both machines? The older one ran xp for 2 years fine. Is there some way to disable my machine from rebooting after it goes to the blue screen so i can write the error code down?

You can try hitting the Pause key.

If you can go into safe mode, then go to System Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery and uncheck the box next to Automatically Restart.
