kdcom.dll blue screen help needed

hello everyone,
im new to the site.

i have an acer aspire 5315 unfortunately running vista 64.

I am currently getting a blue screen stop error which will not allow windows to boot, I have tried running out of safe mode and setting back to last known good config and it still reads the error.

the error reads:

stop: 0x0000007e (0x0000005,x804cc222,0x85bab730,0x85bab42c)

kdcom.dll -address 804cc222 base at 804cb000, datestamp 4d39874a

Seeing it was a kdcom.dll issue i tried saving a working kdcom.dll to a thumb drive and copying it over to system32 to see if that would fix the issue and so far it hasn't.

I do not have a vista repair/recovery disk, however i did make a boot disk using a boot program to allow me to access the disk information. I created an image file boot of the current disk and saved it on a different data partition as a failsafe.

Is there anything i can do to load a new boot file to fix the issue without reformatting?

it seems the hard drive is readable and intact and id hate to lose all my data with reformatting. It seems anything i could find in forums is for xp boot fixes and i know vista is a whole nother beast. Thanks for any help.

Acer should have a utility to create a set of recovery disks. Have you run that yet? Have you tried doing a system restore back to a date when it was still working?

If you have to, you can remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer with a USB adapter to recover your files. If it will start in safe mode, you can connect an external drive and copy files too.

unfortunately i cannot get past the windows load screen with the error. By pressing f8 and getting the boot options i tried doing a rollback and that did not work. Safe mode will not load as well. Is there a function i can run from the boot program to do a system roll back? or do you have any other suggestions?

That being the case, pull the hard drive and recover your files before you do anything else.

If you have access to another computer you could try and download Ubuntu and make a bootable disk.

This works great on my computer running Windows 7.
If will let you at least backup the data you don't want to lose and maybe insert a working file into Windows Vista.

Download | Ubuntu

You will have to use ImageBurn to write the ISO to a CD.

The Official ImgBurn Website

For me at least, I just made the disk, popped it into the CD drive, and it booted my computer right up and connected to the internet.

I keep a Ubuntu disk around all the time just to be on the safe side.
My disk also boots my wifes computer with no problems so it seems pretty universal.
