Blue Screen help

I have an HP pavilion dv7 notebook pc running windows 7 and it's getting a blue screen usually after I log into my account. It doesn't always happen but it's becoming more frequent.

Here are a list of things I've tried to fix the problem:
1) Ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware multiple times (first time found a few infections but haven't found any since)
2) Ran the HP hard drive diagnostics and it passed
3) Did a system restore and this seems to help the problem temporarily but after a couple of days it seems to start up again

I've tried taking a snapshot of the blue screen but it goes away too fast, I know there's a way to stop it from restarting but I forgot how. So far the only important part I could catch from the screen is IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL. If anyone could let me know how to make it so that the screen will stay then I will post a screenshot right away.

Also let me know if you need any more info or specs

Thanks for any help!

P.S. Whenever I try clicking on a link (usually a search result from Google) I get redirected to a completely irrelevant website, so that sounds like a virus to me but I've yet to find it in any scans

P.P.S. On the times windows does boot up normally, I get a message saying windows didn't shut down correctly and these are the details I get with it

Control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery. Uncheck restart on error.

Alright here's the blue screen message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, diable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe mode to remove or disable componenets, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0XFFFFF0002CA72B3)

STOP 0x0000000A or IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
A kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory location without authorization. This Stop error is typically caused by faulty or incompatible hardware or software. The name of the offending device driver often appears in the Stop error and can provide an important clue to solving the problem. If the error message points to a specific device or category of devices, try removing or replacing devices in that category. If this Stop error appears during Setup, suspect an incompatible driver, system service, virus scanner, or backup program. This KB314063 may show you the direction.

-------------------------------------------

A prime suspect would be a bad driver. Another possibility is faulty hardware - HP should have built-in diagnostics accessible from within the bios setup.

So how exactly do I go about finding this bad driver?

Update: I just tried running verifier, I did the Create Standard Settings and I selected all of the drivers from the list I got and rebooted. Now, right after the HP screen is done loading I get a message saying "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I tried restarting and booting from the HDD but I still get the same message. I'm afraid I messed things up more =S

Sounds like it can't find the harddrive. I'm not familiar with verifier, although I did peek at what it was. I can't believe that would hose your system. Does the harddrive show up in the BIOS?

I thought the dump file gives more information about the problem. I'm not sure where else.

The HDD shows up in the boot order. I searched the error code and like glc said it looks like a bad driver so that's why I ran verifier to check for any bad drivers and that's when this happened

Fluke maybe? Power down - back up again?
Hard-drive diagnostics maybe?

Also this information seems interesting...........You could at least try the advise to start in safe mode in regards to system not starting after running verifier.

Windows 7 64 bit BSOD--either system_service_exception or IRQL.....

SPECIFICALLY: "If after enabling the Driver Verifier and restarting the computer you receive a BSOD on startup and cannot start Windows, restart the computer in "Safe Mode" and do the following:

Start > type verifier in the Search programs and files box and press "Enter" > Delete existing settings > Finish

Restart the computer, log into Normal Mode, and make available any resulting minidump file."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you get into safe mode - you could always run something like slimdrivers to find any updated drivers for your system. There is a free version, that you have to update the drivers one at a time. Link for that is here: DriverUpdate.net -Update Drivers for Windows 7, XP, and Vista

With the error your getting, I'm not even sure if you can get into safe mode. Is it possible that your harddrive went bad or was going bad?

I can't get into safe mode because that message comes up right away after the HP logo. I just ran a HDD diagnostics and it passed.

Recovery disks? You might be able to get them from HP.

It could also be bad memory - maybe a memory test.

Link to recovery disks Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

You could also try taking the harddrive out and reseating it. Than trying to get into safe mode.

You could also put a live cd version of linux and see if it works o.k. This may confirm it is not a hardware issue but more of a device driver being used in windows. I think I may be getting one those laptops for repair this weekend with a similar problem. I will let you know once I verify. I am sick of HP laptops, that's all I seem to get these days.

So I got a hold of a windows 7 disk and ran startup repair. This now let me get into safe mode where I deleted all settings from the verifier. Now my laptop seems to be working fine, no blue screens or anything. I can also now check out the dump file but it says I don't have permission to do so. I tried uploading, but same issue.

The dump file is pretty meaningless to anyone except an engineer.

I saw a sample one online and it looked like it pin-pointed what driver was bad.

The last message said something about not even getting the BlueScreens anymore. If you continue to get them - maybe try running slimdrivers, it will at least tell you what drivers need to be updated in case an outdated driver is the culprit.

ahh I can see from looking online further that it does involve some steps including downloading and installing debugging tools capable of reading the dump file. Here is technote from microsoft explaining. I originally thought maybe it was just a text file or something.

How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging

It's an HP but not the same model and I discovered this is still under warranty plus it has a different problem.
