Win7 throws a fit ...
So iTunes stuck me with a corrupt download a few days ago but life got really interesting later on.
Win7 had a major reaction, it wouldn't load and the "in house" file fixer didn't : Disk can't be read or written to. It wasn't just iTunes here, Win7 went into "fix file mode" which means it doesn't load. The solution ? I don't run an admin account as a default so iTunes is on my User Account, I switch to admin to do a back up and then do a (repair) diagnostic from WD ( It took nearly the whole day. I have 2 2 TB drives and I did a fresh back up using the admin account as well.) that showed the hardware was fine. Great everything is back to normal, except that I now know that an iTunes corrupt video file will cause Win7 to flip out. If you get something like this (iTunes Error : 36) it means that Win7 has decided that the hard drive files are being borked (Are borked) and needs you to fix them. It looks like a hard drive failure but it's not ! If you haven't done it yet, your admin account and your user account have to be separate, this will save your life some day.

I dunno, I just run with admin rights all the time. Too many file operations that require administrative privileges and I just hate those darn pop-ups or the system just refusing to do as I say (hey, it's MY computer!). In good ole Mac OS we always have the console and sudo, but the command line in Winsux, well, sux!

Nuke I sympathize but I don't agree ( The setup of my fantasies hasn't materialized yet.).
All Win7 systems I set up these days have both an Admin account and a User account. Not only did this just save me I'm expecting it to save "grief" for a lot of customers. Another 10 seconds for a separate log in? Suffer! |

Eeek, I didn't mean the Administrator account. Heaven forbid I run on that one. I meant my own account with full admin rights. Well, as much as Winsux gives me, I still had to log into my Administrator account the other day to delete a pesky temp file that the OS didn't let me get rid of.
