Secure Login issue

Ok--either I'm insane or this Lenovo G560 is.

Machine info: Windows 7 Home Prem. 64 bit, Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft Security Essentials. This is a nearly new laptop, very little web browsing has been done with it. There are no 3rd party firewalls or realtime security applications aside from MSSE.

I removed the factory installed McAfee software with the downloadable removal program. I also cleaned the registry with Ccleaner. I have cleared the SSL state, flushed DNS, ran Malwarebytes, and everything else I know to do to return Internet Explorer to default settings.

Here's the issue. The owner is using NBA League Pass, a paid subscription to watch games on his laptop. Upon every single entry of his email and password, it goes back to the login screen. It will not log in to this service for anything. I've logged him in with two other computers, and both attempts were successful (indicating that the login information is fine). The same laptop can access Gmail, Hotmail, and NBA.com's website for everything except this particular service.

I've tried the same thing with Chrome and Firefox, same results. I tried a wired and wireless internet connection. Connected it to my work and his home routers--all with the same infuriating result.

I am at a complete loss. Any ideas?

You sure it's not silly like cap lock is on at that machine. You said it definitely works with the same login and password on another computer going to the exact same site? If that is the case - you could try bleachbit. I love this program. Make sure everthing including VACUUM is selected under the browsers.

BleachBit - Clean Disk Space, Maintain Privacy

Ha! Yeah, after doing a bunch of other stuff, I did think to check the caps lock and even changed the password through the forgotten password utility. (I tend to wait to check the easy and obvious stuff until I've wasted a bunch of time doing other needless tasks).

I'll give this BleachBit a try and report back.

Thank you.

Well that didn't work either. I do appreciate the tip, though. That's a great program to help with hard drive cleaning.

I'm just mystified by this problem. By elimination, it almost seems like a hardware problem, but I can't figure out what the heck it could be.

Thanks for your input, Legend.

ok I know this sounds silly, but on that machine if you go to start - run and type in the password, does it look ok? You didn't change the password too many times and maybe not typing in the correct password?

It just doesn't make sense that he can login to other sites on the same computer and log into the site that doesn't work on other computers using the same name and password. Some piece of the puzzle is missing. It's got to be that site. I looked around and saw some other people complaining about that same site.

You try shutting the machine down completely and starting it back up again? If flash is being used - maybe update your flash.

definietely same complaints out there for the same service. Not much information on solutions though. Some talk about connection speeds and checking proxy setups if applicable.

Well this is embarassing.

When I used to work on cars--my first car came home in a bucket--my dad used to tell me: Spark and gas. Spark and gas. In other words, check the obvious stuff before you rip out a distributor or timing set because the car won't start.

Here's the solution. Use 32 bit internet explorer. My first attempt connected this morning.

Thank you very much for all your help, Legend. I appreciate it!
