Windows Vista updates ???
I have Vista OS on a Acer laptop. Almost every time I start my PC I have a update. The updates are filling up my HD. Why so many and are they all necessary ? I have Spybot/ AVG & Ccleaner Do I need all of these defender updates ?

The M$ anwswer: leave the updates set to automatic or you will regret it! You should have upgraded to Windows 7 by now, you know?
The mum answer: it's best to keep your system updated all the time. If you find automatic updates annoying or intrusive, set Windows Update to notify you before downloading. The power user answer: disable Windows Updates. Then make it a habit to check every week or two for updates manually. Read or at least eye scan the description of each and decide whether you need it or no. As a tip, it's recommended that you at least install the critical updates. Defender is not needed. You can turn it off. Point in fact, M$ bundled the Defender features with MSE.

I guess I am a nutcase but I like Vista. I bought my boy a LT with 7 and the way I am set up I like Vista.
My favorite is 2000 that I can't use with the new software. |

Vista is fine. Once you get rid of that stupid UAC, Vista is fine. I also prefer it over 7.
