Hp laptop dv6000
This laptop has vista home installed by Hp but I don`t like all the things hp has on so was wondering if I reformatted it and tried to install another windows vista but used the same product number would it work or do I have to install the HP one.
If I get it to install and it doesn`t accept the product number can I go back and put the hp one back on. There are no disks with this computer just a recovery on the hard disk. I copied it onto a disk but it is also on D: of the hard drive. Thanks |

Did you use the HP utility to create a set of recovery disks?
Instead of reformatting, why not use PC Decrapifier to uninstall all the preinstalled garbage? |

Have you considered just uninstalling what you don't want on the machine?
"IF" you other Vista dvd is the SAME home/business version AND your dvd is an OEM cvdd - the HP key code "might" work. If you don't mess up the HP recovery partition - you should be able to revert back to it any time.. You might also look to see if it'll let you make cd's or dvd's.

Good advice on using the decrapifier software, it works great, especially with bloatware loaded HP's. Depending on what you are looking for, there are not many difference between Vista Home, Business, and Ultimate or in terms of the graphical user interface.
My question would be, what do you not like about it? What are you used to? You will be able to create one set of recovery discs and a repair cd with HP's software and that is the first thing you should do irregardless. They also install a recovery partition, which is normally drive D but you should not rely on that 100%, best to make the recovery cd's. |

Do note that if you use the recovery partition or the media, it will reload all the crap that's making you reformat in the first place.
Best thing to do, please write down the list of what's installed (Control Panel > Programs) and paste it here. We'll tell you what's bloat and what's actually needed.
