Hi, and welcome to the PC Mech forums.
![]() Is your optical drive the first boot device? Go into the BIOS setup and make sure it is. Then just reboot with the first recovery disc in the drive. It should go smoothly from there.

Yes. Internal Optical drive is first in the boot priority order.
the error message i get is CDBOOT: Coudn't find BOOTMGR I tried Vista repair disc downloading from internet but there is no vista image on the hard drive to repair. So nothing happens. I have a friend who has DELL recovery disc. will that work? If so can i load vaio drivers ? Thank You sony Vaio VGN-CR11Z Last edited by snowbyte; 03-11-2011 at 06:58 AM. |

I don't think the disc from the Dell will work. If you can get ahold of an OEM Vista DVD then you can use it to install Vista with the key that's in the sticker attached to the bottom of your laptop. Otherwise, you'll have to take it to a shop to get it fixed. The problem here was most likely the use of DBAN: the laptop had a hidden partition in the hard drive where the recovery files were stored; DBAN nuked that partition and now you can't use the recovery, because apparently the rescue discs you created require that partition to exist. This is mystifying though, that the rescue discs would need it.
If I were to work on it, I'd use an OEM DVD as I suggested. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas, but maybe some of the other members here can contribute. |

Do you have any other bootable cd's. Just curious if it's with all bootable cd's or just this one.

Some recovery disk sets require you to boot with the LAST disk instead of the first one. Try all of them and see if any of them boot.
