Icons messed up

Hi Gang

I started a post on this problem and I remember we did not get very far on it as far as solving it. Now since I have replaced the Video card, not for this problem just updating some of my parts on this computer.

How this happens....I can start up my computer and I get this little box like one generated by the monitor saying it is not set at the recommended resolution, and the Icons are all messed up, located wrong on the desk top screen.

Ok I can reboot it and they come back like 99% like I like them arranged, except for a few. What would be the diff between the startup, and a reboot that would make this diff. I have tried a icon restorer, right clicking on the trash and saving my icons, etc. Nothing seems to make my icons behave. I used the disk that came with my Video card, and installed the drivers. I am going to go to the site and check on newer drivers next. Any Ideas.?

Thanx....Gunny

When it tells you not set at the recommended resolution - does it than ask you if you want to reset the resolution? Is the resolution set to the way you need it to be?

Also, what you said - updates to the drivers?

Hi Legend

Yes I am in the process of getting the latest drivers for it now. When I right click on the desk top and go to set the resolution, the graph does not go high enough to set it at the resolution that is recommended. It says to set it at 1680X1050. I am hoping I can set it higher when I get the new drivers installed.

One question should a person set the resolution using the Video card or the actual Monitor settings.

Thanx...Gunny

Hi GLC

Sorry so late getting back to you on this. No I am running 32 bit, and I found the drivers for it, and installed them. Thanx

Now in my things this Samsung monitor is listed as a generic would it be possible to change that and would this have anything to do with the resolution problem.? Because when I start it up and it goes to my desk top there is this little box saying what is recommended for this monitor, and it is generated by the monitor. Should I get the drivers for this monitor.? I have never had to do this before just wondering.

Thanx....Gunny

Is 1680x1050 available on the resolution slider? If not, go into the Nvidia Control Panel and see if it's available there.

It *should* be showing as a Plug and Play monitor, not generic.

Go to Windows Update and scan for updates. See if it comes up with something in the Hardware section. DO NOT install any Nvidia drivers, but if there's a monitor driver offered, install it.

Hi GLC

When I right click on the desk top screen and click on the resolution, it don't have a high enough setting there, but when I go into the Nvidia for the monitor it allows me to set it at the right resolution. Lets hope it accepts that and it stays there. So far so good.

The first time I did the drivers for that card they must have messed up some how. This time they went in and seem to be working ok.

Thanx....Gunny
