Remote Desktop Connection
Hey guys, I'm having trouble setting up my remote desktop connection. All computers I have, have Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, so I know this is possible.
I can connect remotely on my LAN without any problems at all, but I cannot figure out how to get the port to open to the internet where I already have installed No-IP DUC. I have two routers. One is an ancient ActionTec that is the gateway, and the other is a D-link that we use for wifi. Everything is statically routed. So I forwarded port 3389 with TCP to the computer that I wanted to connect remotely too on both routers, but still I get no connection on that port. Canyouseeme.org just keeps timing out. Remote desktop connection is allowed on windows firewall, and I've checked my antivirus programs, even turned them off, and they aren't causing it. Like I said, over the LAN it will connect, but not over WAN. Any suggestions? |

I think my ISP's NAC blocks it when it's incoming. Anyone know a way around this?

Is the D-Link neutered and being used as just a switch and wireless access point - connected to the Actiontec through a LAN port and not the Internet port? If not, you are never going to get through the double NAT.

Instead of Remote Desktop, download and install TeamViewer.

The D-link is indeed neutered. But just in case I tried unplugging it and plugging the computer directly into the gateway and port forwarding. Aboslutely nothing changed
![]() teamview and other's like it tend to be pathetically slow, but I guess it'll have to do. btw, doing a netstat -a shows port 3389 as listening, so it has everything to do with the router or ISP. Since I have port forwarded on the router, and even tried turning all firwalls off, software or hardware, and still got no where. I'm gonna have to say it's my ISP. |

Another option is a logmein.com account.

had that one before I tried the other suggestion. The quality is still not very good but it works. Logmein actually has a couple extras to it, like being able to run the sound from the controlled computer to the controlling computer.
