Is this right?

Was having lunch and 2 guys at next table talking computers. I wasn't eavesdropping, of course. One was saying that Win7 Home Premium won't recognize more than 8gb ram, and they did that on purpose knowing people would have to buy the Pro or Ultimate version, and couldn't return the Home. After a few minutes I butted in and said the 64-bit versions were supposed to enable recognizing more ram than 32-bit. Guy said yes, but even with 64-bit, the Home only recognizes up to 8. Not that most of us need more than 8gb, but folks that do have to get Pro or Ultimate according to him. Glc will love this - the guy works at Fry's. Is he right?

Those guys seem to be right about Home Basic. I don't know about Microsoft's motivations but I see no reason why Microsoft could not have written the less expensive versions to allow for the utilization of more RAM....other than for financial reasons. Seems like with the code you could probably punch in any number you want, up to 192 which is probably some other type of limitation.

For Windows 7 64: 2 gigs for Starter, 8 gigs for Home Basic, 16 gigs for Premium and 192 gigs for Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate.

Interesting, I never knew what the limitations for Win7 64 were either till I looked it up.
