You can't format the drive that's in use by the operating system. Exactly what are you trying to do?

It won't help to boot off a floppy and format..
What happens when you try doing it the normal way?

it gets just about done and then says something is corupt. probably from the system going to the blue screen while trying to repair and or reinstall windows, not to mention it going to the blue screen a hundred times while windows was running.

Does this happen after you've deleted the partitions and recreated them so you can do a clean format?
You should run the hard drive testing software from the drive makers web site... A faulty drive can cause BSOD etc.. |

I was able to delete partitions and creat a new one in which I installed windows XP. However that was not a 64 bit OS. all did seem to be running fine though. So I then tried to install windows 7 profesional. I deleted the partitions and created new again, waste of time doing the XP I know. while installing windows 7 it froze up at 70 percent expanding windows files. so I restarted the process but this time I tried instaling windows 7 home premium. it froze up at 69 percent expanding windows files.
any suggestions! |

Did you run any harddrive tests yet? I didn't really think about what you were actually doing when you asked for the format command. LOL. that's why I looked it up and sent you the link. For all I know it could of been some external harddrive you were referring to. ; )

You need WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS (CD version).
WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Caviar Blue / SE / SE16 (SATA II) |
