When say memory - do you really mean hard drive space?

Do you programs still work ok?
Did you reboot the machine?

Your system has hidden directories for the Windows Restore... that will chew up some room... your swap file usage may be changing, files downloading for updates, etc. You're not going to see a constant usage. It will fluctuate. With todays hard drive sizes... 3GB is nothing to worry about.
