Laptop crash

Have a Toshiba L355 laptop. Made a big mistake last night, tried to use my 37 "Olevia TV as a monitor via Rs232 cable. It appeared to be working fine until I shut it down .When I tried to restart it appears that my hard drive was erased, I get the Toshiba screen and then a black screen, my keyboard and mouse inop. DVD drive works! Any way to resurrect?

Look in the manual for the Fn-F key combination that switches from internal to external display.

By the way, that's a neat trick using a RS-232 cable for a monitor cable. I don't see how it worked!

My Toshiba Laptop crashed, I think it was from a power surge. I was running Windows7.Now the DVD drive works , mouse lights up and when I start it I get the Toshiba screen and then a black screen with a white dot in upper left hand corner. nothing on the keyboard works!

Does it let you go into the Bios?
Maybe run harddrive diagnostics to make sure your harddrive isn't bad?

Did you mean a VGA cable? (three rows of pins, not two)

No it's an rs232 cable, The Tv is made to connect to a computer. It has an RS 232 socket in the back. It clearly says in the manual, But I think it draws toom much power for a laptop!I cant get into anything as my keyboard does not work!!

I have NEVER seen a laptop or a monitor or a TV with a RS-232 jack. Please count the rows and pins.

RS-232 is a 2 row 9 pin used for serial data, not video, and connects to a COM port. VGA is 3 row 15 pin.

The manual is translated from Chinese so I guess they made a mistake. But the cable is not my problem . The laptop doesnt work , period it is no longer connected to the TV!!

Hi

What happens when you put in the Windows DVD, does it give you any options.
Like boot repair, or repair install?

Sounds like it doesn't go far enough through the boot process to load drivers for your keyboard and mouse.

Mike

The Windows 7 Upgrade should still boot into some sort of visible menu.
