transferring to new PC

I'm getting ready to build a new PC using W7 home prem. Is there some way to get my old stuff on my new one. I'm using XP home now.

IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 Cable Adapter - Turn Your 2.5", 3.5" or 5.25" IDE or SATA Drive Into A USB Drive! 2020

Copy what you need over - you will have to reinstall all software but data files are a simple copy.
