Win 7 Creates Empty Folders Each Day
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on an HP laptop. I like to keep my system clean and routinely look for unused folders/temp files on my system. In the folder C:\Users/myname/AppData/Local my system creates a folder every day or so that is empty. An example of the folder name is one that was created today...{1FC15632-79A7-402A-8964-B85F49715BBF}. One time I looked and there were over 50 folders like this in this directory. I deleted them all with no issues.
I have been watching to see when this is created to see if there is a certain program causing it. All day yesterday I ran my computer through normal use and no folder was created. This morning I turned it on and one minute later the folder appeared. The only thing I used was my email (Windows Live). I have used the email many times before and it did not create this folder, so not sure that it tied to it at all. Anyone know what could be creating these empty folders?

Perhaps the drive indexing service?

My understanding is that they are created by Windows Live Mail. There is a bug in that they should be created in "C:\users\{name}\temp" and deleted afterward. They can be safely deleted.

Thanks for the suggestion glc. The indexing service was already turned off. I just disabled the Windows Search Indexing service and will see if that stops these annoying folders. Indexing was already disabled when I looked in the drive properties.

I guessed wrong - looks like Strollin is on top of this one.

I have been monitoring everything closely and strollin is correct in that they are created by Windows Live Mail. When one was recently created I searched for all files created and found WLupdate.log, etc, indicating Windows Live Update ran at the same time.
I know I can delete them as they are empty. It is just annoying to have them created 2 or 3 times a day. Is there a way to stop them? I searched every possible menu item in Windows Live Mail and could not find a way to disable updating. |

Get rid of that POS Live Mail.
M$ products update via Windows updates if you've signed up for Microsoft Update. Just go to the Windows Update item in the control panel, click on Change Settings and then uncheck Receive updates for other Microsoft programs or something like that.

Thanks Krusader.....unfortunately I did that and the temp folders will still created. I turned Windows update completely off and they were still created every 12 hours or so. As you said, I may get rid of it and get another email client. Any recommendations?
