Hey everyone,
Before I start, I DID search the forums for my problem and I found something similar but not quite the same (because the solution didn't work lol). Anyways, I'm on my other laptop right now because the laptop I normally use keeps freezing up at the login screen. The mouse doesn't work, the keyboard doesn't work, safe mode doesn't work, and I even tried all of the advanced boot options (disable driver signature enforcement, all of the repair this computer options, etc...). Nothing seems to work. I don't know if this is a virus issue or a driver issue, because I just removed a nasty virus from my computer right before this happened (the Win 7 Security 2011 virus). I ran a SpyBot scan, a Malwarebytes scan and a Spyware Doctor scan - all of them removed pieces of the virus and it appeared to be completely gone before SpyBot asked me to restart my computer. And now I've been locked out of my computer ever since SpyBot asked me to restart. One thing I did find in this problem was the command prompt (under advanced boot options >> repair this computer >> command prompt). Is there a way I can rollback or reload my mouse and keyboard drivers using the command prompt?? Any help/input/advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance! -Ryan |

You probably have system file damage from the infection and need to do what we used to call "A repair install" in XP.
Boot from the DVD and go through the installation wizard. When it asks you if you want to do a clean install or an upgrade, select the Upgrade option. This will do what is called an "in place upgrade" of the OS. This will also work for Vista. The installer for Windows 6.x (both Vista and 7) are almost identical in this regard. When you finish, you will need to re-activate Win 7 and you will likely want to run Windows Update to make sure you've got all of the latest updates from there, but your installed apps will still be there. I hope you have an install DVD with that machine and not a recovery partition on the harddrive. |

I do have my install disc right here next to me. So if I do a clean install I should be able to keep all of my files?
Also a little update, this morning I tired to launch windows praying the problem would just all blow over and when I started windows it started doing disc scan to check for consistency (it's the CHKDSK thing)... I'm hoping this is fixes it. If not, I'll be doing a clean install later tonight. |

A clean install will wipe your files - you need to do an upgrade install.
If it went into CHKDSK, you should probably run hard drive diagnostics, you may be starting to have a drive failure. |

I got to the upgrade option but when I select it and click next it says I need to take out the installation disc, restart my computer normally and then reinsert the disc again... The only problem is I can't restart normally because of my issue. What should I do now??

Pull the drive, use a USB adapter to save your data to another computer, then do a clean install. Sorry.
